Hello everyone!
My name is Minako Kurinaga. I’m from Nagoya, Japan. It’s not easy for me to go abroad because I have two sons and a husband. Both sons are college students but they still need my help.
I’ve wanted to come to Cebu. Why? My anecdote of coming here starts with a lady from Cebu. I met this lady 14 years ago in the US. I was on my way to my American friend’s house in Virginia with my two sons. They were five and three at that time. I didn’t know much about Cebu until she told me. She was nice. She told me Cebu is beautiful and a nice place to visit.
Several years ago, I met another lady from the Philippines. Actually, she was an ECC teacher. She also told me about the Philippines having many islands and they’re beautiful. She mentioned about Halo-Halo too. Speaking with them gave me a good impression of Cebu and the Philippines. That’s why I’m here.
Today I’d like to talk about my future. Don’t laugh but I still have my dream. I’d like to study English in the US again. I have a little experience of studying abroad in Portland, Oregon. I was in Lewis and Clark College to study English, piano and vocal. They have a beautiful campus. You can see Mount Hood which is like Mount Fuji from the campus. They also have a beautiful rose garden. Their library opens 24 hours. You can study anytime you want.
I like English because right now English is like the universal language. So if you could speak English you could talk to many people from many other countries.
I have friends from Bangladesh. I met this family in Japan because I could speak English. I also have had Arabic friends before. Their culture was totally different from ours. I was really happy to know them.
I like studying. Not only English but studying other new things may give me some passion or joy to live in. So next time I’d like to study something like jazz piano, drama or art in English for at least several months in the US. This is my future plan.
I’ve been raising up my sons for a long time. The oldest one will graduate from college soon. My second one would be junior next year. Few more years and I have my freedom again. I can’t wait for that day. I thank God that I could be their mother.
What about you? What do you want do in the future?
Thank you.
